NEET 2027: How to Plan Class 11–12 with Boards and MHT-CET
A practical NEET 2027 plan for Class 11–12 students in Maharashtra: exam pattern, NCERT-first strategy, and how to balance Boards and MHT-CET (PCB).
For a medical aspirant in Maharashtra, Class 11 and 12 mean three exams at once: NEET-UG, the Class 12 Board exam, and MHT-CET (PCB). The good news is that they overlap heavily. With the right plan, preparing for one strengthens the other two.
Note: NTA publishes the official NEET-UG information bulletin each year. The pattern below is the one used in recent years — always confirm the 2027 details on neet.nta.nic.in when the bulletin is released.

Biology is half the paper. Physics is usually where the competition is decided, because many students find it hardest.
Rule 1: NCERT first, line by line
Almost every Biology question in NEET can be traced back to an NCERT line, diagram or table. The same is true for large parts of Inorganic and Organic Chemistry. Before any reference book, read NCERT completely, several times, and make short notes of facts that are easy to forget — examples, exceptions, diagrams.
Rule 2: Treat Physics as problem solving, not reading
Physics marks come from solving many problems, not from re-reading theory. Learn a concept, then solve graded problems on it the same week. Students who struggle with Physics usually need stronger basics in Class 11 mechanics — fix them early.
How NEET, Boards and MHT-CET fit together
| NEET | Class 12 Boards | MHT-CET (PCB) | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Syllabus base | NCERT Class 11 + 12 | Class 12 | Mostly Class 12, some Class 11 |
| Style | MCQ, negative marking | Written answers | MCQ, no negative marking |
| What it rewards | Accuracy under time pressure | Complete, well-presented answers | Speed |
Because all three are built on the same NCERT chapters, a student who studies each chapter properly once is preparing for all three. The difference is in practice style: MCQs with timing for NEET and CET, written answers for Boards.
A two-year outline
- Class 11: complete the Class 11 syllabus with understanding. Weekly tests. Do not leave Physics chapters for later.
- Class 12, first half: complete the Class 12 syllabus; revise Class 11 Biology in parallel.
- Class 12, second half: full-length NEET mock tests, Board-format written practice before the Board exam, and timed CET practice papers.
- Final weeks before NEET: revision of NCERT Biology and your error notebook. Fewer new questions, more revision.
Three common mistakes
- Collecting too many books instead of mastering NCERT.
- Ignoring Physics until Class 12 — it becomes much harder to fix late.
- Taking mock tests without reviewing them. Every mistake should go into an error notebook.
